ERIC TAYLOR HOLLYWOOD POCKETKNIFE
All new studio recording from Taylor. It features seven new songs and three covers including his take on Townes Van Zandt’s “Highway Kind.” Fans of the Eric Andersen classic “Ghosts Upon The Road” will find this album a worthy companion to that recording. Stephen Fromholtz and Vince Bell guest, but it’s really Taylor’s show. His new songs are first rate and his understated performance gives them a perfect voice.

MARAH ANGELS OF DESTRUCTION
There are no surprises with Marah albums and that’s a good thing. They know what it is that they do best and they just keep chipping away at it. What they do best is straight ahead rock in the vein of the Faces and NRBQ. The fact that they give it just a bit of twang now and then only makes it sweeter. This is their sixth album from the kids in Philly and was recorded over the past year.

APRIL COPE PETALS FALL

JASON RINGENBERG BEST TRACKS AND SIDE TRACKS 1979-2007 (2CD)
This two disc set features a little bit of everything for Jason fans. It’s full of rarities from his solo years and remastered versions of some of his out of print recordings. To sweeten the pie just a bit he’s gone back in the studio and re-recorded some of his early recordings with the Scorchers. Live tracks, alternates and other unreleased gems pop up everywhere on this set. It’s a lot of cow punk fun packaged as two CDs.

SHELBY LYNNE JUST A LITTLE LOVIN’
Well she’s finally done it. Lynne has at last made the album we all knew she had in her. This all new recording finds her covering her musical soul mate Dusty Springfield. Cover is probably not the correct term here, it’s more of a starting point to bring out her soulful side. Instead of the ringing production that backed Dusty we are treated to a more subdued approach that retains her (Dusty) spirit and never once overplays her (Shelby) hand. You don’t have to be a Shelby Lynne fan, or even Dusty for that matter, to enjoy this set. It stands on its own merits as both a tribute and a fresh look at some wonderful songs. If you listen to music late at night then this album is a must. If you listen on Sunday mornings it’s essential.

SHELBY LYNNE JUST A LITTLE LOVIN’ (VINYL)
Same as above, but you have to turn it over to hear all the songs.

SAM PHILLIPS DON’T DO ANYTHING
First new music from Phillips in nearly three years. She starts the year off with a bang on this self produced recording. Her blending of pop, rock and folk is hard to describe and just as hard to resist when you hear it. This recording finds her mining familiar territory both musically and emotionally on these eleven new songs. You can start your year off right with this one too.

TIM HARDIN PAINTED HEAD (IMPORT)
This is one of his rarest and most interesting recordings. For such an accomplished songwriter to record and album of all covers always makes for a compelling project. Hardin doesn’t disappoint on this 1973 album. The covers are esoteric and show his various influences from Randy Newman to Jesse Winchester with nods along the way to Willie Dixon and Badfinger. It looks strange on paper, but he makes it work.

ROGER MCGUINN …& BAND / CARDIFF ROSE (2 ON 1)

STEVE YOUNG & STONE COUNTRY STONE COUNTRY
From the mid sixties comes this lost gem of West Coast country and rock. They had only a handful of singles and this lone album to mark their place in music history. This has never been on disc until now. As you would expect the sound is country at its core, but makes room for some soulful rock and roll. This is truly a find and we are glad to offer it for all of you Steve Young collectors who’ve asked about it over the years.

ELECTRIC FLAG AN AMERICAN MUSIC BAND / A LONG TIME COMIN’ (2 ON 1)
This single disc is comprised of their two seminal albums both released in 1968. Combining blue eyed soul, blues, rock and even some psychedelic touches they forged a unique sound that others copy to this day. The members, Mike Bloomfield, Buddy Miles, Barry Goldberg, Nick Gravenites and Harvey Brooks were all legends before forming this group and didn’t let us down after their formation.

VAN MORRISON REISSUES
VAN MORRISON
As I’m sure you’ve noticed over the past couple of years nearly every Van Morrison CD has gone out of print. We received no warning from the industry or any explanation why the discs kept showing up as cutout when we placed orders for them. Cynics immediately surmised that they would all be reissued with bonus tracks once the inventory was completely dried up. Turns out they were right. Starting with these six titles his catalog is coming back and each disc contains at least one bonus track to round it out. All discs have been remastered and feature upgraded and expanded booklets. Few artists have had the career he’s had and getting a chance to fall in love with these albums all over again is a great way to kick off the year.

FRED EAGLESMITH LIVE BELOW SEA LEVEL
This is sort of a visual “what I did on my fall vacation.” This all new live recording features Fred in concert in Holland from last November. It’s a casual stroll through some of his best known material done as only he can do them. It’s been too long since we’ve had a new album from him so this is a welcome diversion until such time. In stock.

ALAN LOMAX THE SONGHUNTER
This DVD is a musical and social history lesson disguised as riveting entertainment. The filmmakers have traveled around Europe searching out some of the artists that Lomax recorded in his storied career. Fleshed out with interviews of his colleagues and friends you get a real sense of his historical journeys over the years to preserve the music of the people and the times they lived in. After watching this just let your mind wonder for a moment and try to imagine what music would have been like without his vision and relentless pursuit. Essential viewing.

GARY LOURIS VAGABONDS (VINYL ONLY)
This will be released on CD next month, but for the time being it is only available as an analog 180 gram vinyl pressing. This is his first solo album and was co-produced with fan and former Black Crowe Chris Robinson. Obviously country rock abounds in these grooves and he’s written some first rate new material to get his solo career off to a flying start. We have no idea how many of these are being pressed but if you want it in this version get your order in now.

Bad news...
Only THe Heart May Know, sublime duo avec Emmylou Harris sur l'album The Innocent Age.
